MS and inflammation?  Eat the seeds!  Lung Cancer?  Eat the seeds!  ADHD?  Eat the seeds!  Dementia?  Eat the seeds!

Well, you get the message.

This message, in fact, comes from Dr. Bradford Weeks who was interviewed by Ty Bollinger for The Truth About Cancer - a video series about the current and projected cancer pandemic and alternative treatments.

For information about the science behind eating seeds for health (including achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight, i.e., weight gain prevention, weight and fat loss), check out Dr. Week's website:  WeeksMD.

Many seeds are, in fact, on the list of superfoods because they are packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients and, in recent and ongoing scientific research, have been linked to numerous health promoting benefits - as this infographic entitled Health Benefits of Seeds for Yoga By Candace illustrates.

According to the natural  and holistic health and nutrition community, some of the healthiest seeds you can eat are:

Apricot Seeds
Black Cumin Seeds
Black Raspberry Seeds
Chia Seeds
Flax Seeds (Flaxmeal)
Grape Seeds
Hemp Seeds

Seeds:  Health Benefits

According to many well-respected functional medicine and other physicians, nutritionists and wellness experts, seeds (such as flax, chia, sesame and sunflower) are an important part of a healthy diet and approximately one to two tablespoons should be eaten every day.

Nutritionally dense and rich in essential oils, antioxidants and important vitamins and minerals, seeds provide an array of protective health benefits, including lowering the risk for heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes.

Flax and other seeds are also linked to natural weight loss due to their high dietary fiber content, detoxification effect and potential to make one feel full and satisfied - thereby preventing overeating.

Flax seeds are an excellent source of healthy, plant-based protein and essential fatty acids and, hence, are an exceptionally good choice for individuals following a plant-based diet, including vegetarians and vegans.

Chia seeds have a mild nutty flavor and can be used in both sweet and savory dishes.   They can simply be sprinkled on top of a salad or folded into a rice or other grain mixture.  When added to water, they have a gel-like quality which can be used as an egg substitute in baking.

Ideally, flax seeds (or flaxseed) should be ground prior to consumption because the whole seed can pass through the digestive system without being digested.  Ground flaxseed can be used in many of the same ways as chia seeds, including as a healthy egg substitute in baking.

Flax seeds can be easily and quickly ground in a coffee grinder or can be purchased already milled.  Ground flaxseed meal should be stored in the refrigerator for freshness.
