6 Anti-Inflammatory Herbs [Infographic]

6 Anti-Inflammatory Herbs for Pain
Chronic Inflammation

Recent studies indicate that ongoing, widespread, whole body inflammation (also known as chronic or persistent inflammation) may be at the root of cancer, heart disease, joint pain, accelerated aging and various other chronic diseases and medical conditions.  It is also thought that this type of inflammation may promote weight gain and obesity and inhibit weight loss or proper weight maintenance.

Anti-Inflammatory Herbs and Foods

In holistic and herbal medicine, it is thought that certain foodsherbs and spices act as anti-inflammatories in the body.

The recommendation is generally to include some of these foods, herbs and spices in the diet on a regular basis.

Infographic: What is Mindfulness Meditation?

We've all heard and read about the many health benefits of meditation, mindfulness and living in the moment.

Meditating on a regular basis has been associated with alleviating stress, relieving tension and anxiety, overcoming food and chemical substance addiction, losing weight, managing pain and depression, reducing the risks for disease, and many other benefits.

But, what is mindfulness meditation and how does it work?

This infographic, entitled "Mindful Meditation? Living in the Moment" explains science behind meditation and the mental and physical benefits of mindfulness.

Numerous studies have shown the relationship between meditation and health in individuals who meditate on a regular (ideally daily) basis.  Optimally, it is generally suggested that a person meditate from 30 to 60 minutes two times a day.  If mediation can help us improve our overall health, manage our stress levels (which is important in weight loss), prevent depression, lose or maintain a healthy weight and lower our risk for chronic diseases, then it certainly seems like a worthwhile endeavor.

Infographic: Organic Food Costs

Organic food has gotten the reputation of being costly and not affordable to individuals and families on a budget.  A quick survey of the produce department at the local supermarket would confirm this.   Organic versions of fruits and vegetables are slightly more expensive.  But, how does the cost of organic food in general compare to the cost of other types of foods on a pound per pound basis?

This infographic puts things into perspective by not only showing the cost per pound or gallon of some popular processed and junk food (like candy, soda and potato chips) but also by showing the hidden costs of consuming these types of foods (like farm subsidies, medical costs and pesticide clean-up).

The only comment I have with regard to this Infographic is that there is strong evidence that a whole food, plant-based diet (i.e., vegan) is healthier than a diet that includes meat and dairy.  However, for those individuals who choose not to exclude meat and/or dairy, the organic versions are the healthier option.
